Crime Prevention and Design Management
When designing a building an architect has to consider numerous competing interests and designing out crime is just one of them. The physical environment contributes to the risk of a building or it's contents being attacked. Inappropriate design or choice of materials may provide easier targets for criminals.
The Crime Prevention and Security Design Specialists will find it necessary to inform all those concerned in a project of potential conflicts in order to achieve the objective of designing out crime from the outset.
This could include the developers, planning officers, planning committees, highway engineers, landscape architects etc.
It is essential, in order to achieve objectives at the design and planning stages, that recommendations are cost effective as MCPsi recognise that the client and his design team are all working within strict budgets.
Good liaison with architects and planning departments could save the expense of speculative applications where crime could be caused for police objections and MCPsi can assist in this process.
It is, however, important to establish what the intended use of a building will be as it's final use may itself present crime opportunities that would otherwise not be apparent, and commercial business parks can be particularly vulnerable.
Early consultation to mitigate potential problems needs is imperative to take full advantage of this designing out crime process
